What Should It Be HMO or PPO or Something Else?
Since we’re talking about choices, there are a couple of them that you could consider: HMOs and PPOs. Again, each of these plans offers something different, and your choice will largely depend on what you “want” at the end of the day when it comes to health care options. For instance, the HMOs are fairly cheap, but restrictive – meaning you can only use the doctors in their network. That might work for you, and then again, it might not. If you go out-of-network, it will cost you big bucks to pay the doctor, plus you have to report to your primary care specialist. They also have a rep of denying more claims than they pay.
PPOs give you access to more doctors, and that includes specialists. You can get referrals and that comes in handy when you need that specialist. You don’t need to report to your primary care doc either. Does this come with a higher price tag? Yes, it does, but if that is what you want, it may well be worth it.
